Increasingly, government agencies, corporations and other service
providers are required to protect against impacts to the environment
and human health. However, without the necessary scientific expertise
and knowledge of regulations, this can be a complex costly and time
consuming process.

GLOBALTOX understands
how to effectively integrate regulatory requirements and scientific
information to promote informed decision making. Since 1992, Canadian,
American and international corporations, government agencies and
not-for-profit organizations have relied on us to help them identify,
assess, apply and effectively communicate the information that is
most critical to managing their toxicology-related issues. When
you need thorough research, up-to-date science and credible answers,
rely on GLOBALTOX
to help you manage your human health and environmental issues.
The Mission of GLOBALTOX,
a premier toxicology firm, is to provide clear, current, and scientifically
defensible advice so our clients can make decisions with confidence.

- Human Health Risk Assessment
GLOBALTOX uses up-to-date
information and methods to evaluate potential risks to humans associated
with exposures to chemicals in their environments. We are familiar
with human health risk assessment (HHRA) methods commonly used across
North America, including Ontarios new Regulation 153/04 process.
Our HHRAs range from basic to complex, including the use of probabilistic
methods and consideration of multiple exposure media, as appropriate.
Three GLOBALTOX staff
members meet the requirements for Qualified Person, Risk Assessment
(QPRA) in Ontario.
- Ecological Risk Assessment
GLOBALTOXs ecological
risk assessment (ERA) services can help clients evaluate risks to
non-human species associated with environmental exposures to chemicals.
Our ERA work includes both terrestrial and aquatic animal and plant
species, and focuses on the appropriate level of organization to
respond to the specific issue at hand (individual, population, community,
physical environment, ecosystem). We are familiar with many different
approaches to ecological risk assessment, including those of the
Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment, Ontario and the
European Union. Three GLOBALTOX
staff members meet the requirements for Qualified Person,
Risk Assessment (QPRA) in Ontario.
- Toxicology Profiling
GLOBALTOX prepares
comprehensive toxicological profiles of substances of interest to
our clients. The toxicological profiles can be developed and used
as support for a variety of different applications, including:
- regulatory submissions,
- expert opinions in legal matters,
- development of environmental quality criteria,
- adoption or modification of environmental quality criteria
from other jurisdictions, and
- risk communication tools
- Risk Communication
Science is useful as a decision making tool only when it is effectively
communicated by scientists and understood by stakeholders. In high
concern situations where trust may be low, effective communication
can improve the credibility of decision making processes and the
information they are based on. At GLOBALTOX
, we deliver risk communication training programs for our clients
and provide technical communication services on environmental projects.
- Training: GLOBALTOX
, in collaboration with Trevor Smith Diggins develops and delivers
customized ½-, 1- and 2-day training programs focused
on communicating science effectively in high concern
low trust situations. We have delivered this course to many
government, private sector and non-government organizations
since 2001. Each course is founded on solid principals that
teach participants how to be effective communicators, and courses
are tailored to our clients individual needs.
- Support: GLOBALTOX
provides hands-on risk communication support to help our clients
communicate science effectively to their stakeholders on environmental
issues. We have a reputation for being honest, credible and
effective in our communications with our clients stakeholders.
By communicating scientific information effectively, we help
our clients foster positive, two-way dialogue with parties interested
in their projects. This promotes solutions-oriented attitudes
to dealing with resolving health concerns, and helps to ensure
that key decisions are based on sound information, rather than
on fear and speculation.
